Healing Through Art and Craft

Healing through Art and Craft with Rev Kelly Crocker, Minister of Congregational Life Saturday, May 11, 2019, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. $30 pledged/$40 non-pledged *a light lunch will be served “Art opens the closets, airs out the cellars and attics. It brings healing.” Julia Cameron Over three-quarters of American households contain someone who creates art or loves to craft. Painting, sewing, knitting, scrapbooking, photography, woodworking and more provide us with more than just a creative outlet. Even at their most basic, these activities are potent ways to distract the mind, soothe the soul, and de-stress the body. The knowledge that art can heal is spreading. From musicians in hospitals to quilts on the National Mall, art is healing people all over the world. It is helping veterans recover, improving the quality of life for cancer patients, and bringing communities together to improve their neighborhoods. Now it’s our turn. Through art projects, visual and written, along with spiritual practices, we’ll look at how art can help us heal ourselves, our families, and maybe even our communities.
